Do you know how supporting victims of crime is helping Scotland? The document Do you know? demonstrates how crime impacts on our society and how the work of Victim Support Scotland can assist local authorities in reducing the impact of crime and reach local targets to create a more successful Scotland.
Background
The Concordat agreement sets out the terms of the new relationship between the Scottish Government and local government. The agreement gives local authorities substantially greater freedom and flexibility. The Scottish Government has set an overall purpose to increase sustainable economic growth; the onus is on local authorities to fulfil this purpose in their own areas. Success will be measured against indicators and targets, specified in the Concordat agreement.
‘Do you know?’
In ‘Do you know’, we have chosen 33 national Outcomes, Indicators and Targets where we demonstrate how our work helps local authority to fulfil these outcomes and targets. Among many other things, ‘Do you know’ illustrates that emotional support and practical information in the aftermath of crime can assist to reduce alcohol related hospital admissions, improve conditions for homeless households, increase positive public perception of the general crime rate as well as reduce overall reconviction rates and crime victimisation. The services provided by Victim Support Scotland also help to ensure that people in Scotland live longer, healthier lives and that our young people are successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens. The book includes statistical information and general facts on crime, victimisation, their consequences and how the work of Victim Support Scotland can reduce the impact of crime and victimisation. Overall, ‘Do you know’ is intended to be of assistance to local services in demonstrating the value of our work. It also helps local authorities to see how Victim Support Scotland can be of assisting in reaching local targets to create a more successful country.
