Victim Support Scotland is delighted to present our first international conference. 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Victim Support Scotland and as part of our celebrations, we are hosting a 3 day international victimology conference, including practical workshops. The conference will take place in Edinburgh, and is aimed at bringing together practitioners, academics, public and private sector, statutory bodies and researchers to consider victimology in its broadest sense, as well as the specifics of unreported crime. The conference will seek to:

  • address why victims choose to tell or not tell anyone about a crime
  • reflect on victim engagement in the justice system
  • advance the knowledge of all service provision to people affected by crime

Aim of the conference

  • Improve contacts and cooperation between victim support organisations
  • Building cooperation and networks between victim support practitioners and academics, transforming victimology theory to practice
  • Develop and explore best practice in service provision to victims of crime
  • Explore the area of unreported crime and advance knowledge and support to victims of unreported crime
  • Promote overall judicial cooperation to advance the role of victims in criminal matters
  • Victim empowerment - explore how to encourage victims to participate in the criminal justice system

The conference is open to an international audience and looks to develop and examine innovative methods of providing support to victims of crime.

A number of associated social events are also planned, including a Gala Dinner and potentially a Royal Reception.
