David McKenna, the Chief Executive of Victim Support Scotland, has been appointed President of Victim Support Europe.
He was elected unopposed today (May 29, 2010) at the Annual General Meeting which followed the 24th annual Conference of Victim Support Europe in Berlin, Germany.
David had been the Secretary of Victim Support Europe for five years and has been associated with European victim issues since 1994.
He is a member of the World Society for Victimology and has worked in the victims’ arena for nearly 25 years. He is committed to the availability of consistent, quality services to people affected by crime throughout Europe.
David said: “I consider my appointment an honour, both for myself and for Victim Support Scotland where everyone has worked so hard to establish what is recognised as the best victim support service in Europe. There is much work to be done in Europe to ensure that victims of crime can expect similar standards of treatment in all of the 27 member states.”
