Help Victim Support Scotland in your area

Victim Support Scotland is proud of its reputation of being the lead provider of services to victims and witnesses of crime in Scotland.  A critical element of our success has been our ability to promote the work of VSS and to represent communities locally through our Area Committee structure,

VSS is a community-based organisation which has a service in every local authority in Scotland. In many authorities we are strengthened by an active Area Committee comprising of volunteers who have an interest in the area and who are willing to give of their time in promoting our work.

As part of the local service team the Area Committee will be involved in raising our profile locally and importantly in fundraising to enhance the range of work that we can do in support of local individuals and communities.

We are seeking individuals who may be interested in leading the committee as ‘Chair’ and would be delighted to have the opportunity to meet with interested individuals to talk through informally the role and remit of our area committees in Scotland

If you were interested and live in the following local authority areas:

Dumfries and Galloway

Argyll & Bute

Falkirk

Clackmannan

West Dunbartonshire

Inverclyde

please make contact with Alan Davie, Vice Chair VSS on 01575 575655 or email

alanandbrenda@davie123.plus.com

Each of the Victims Services has an Area Committee which are comprised of volunteers from the local communities from all walks of life. We regularly need new members to volunteer their time and skills across Scotland.

Please contact your local Victim service to see if they need committee members

Area committee members are responsible for promotion, fundraising and networking and are closely involved in raising the profile of the organisation.

Area committee members actively represent their Victim Service within the community.

The area committee is responsible for promoting the local publicity and for maximising all opportunities for highlighting the range of services that their service offers.

Skills & Experience

An understanding of victims' issues and a non judgmental approach. Experience of committee work, fundraising and publicity would be desirable, though not necessary as training can be provided.

Training and Induction into the organization will be given

• Represent the organisation as agreed
• Take part in/lead fundraising initiatives
• Network to promote Victim Support in the local community
• Take part in ad hoc events as necessary (e.g. workshops, selection panels)
• Undertake training

If you are elected Chair or Vice Chair, the time commitment could be increased.
