Sainsbury’s Irvine Local Charity of the Year
Victim Support in North Ayrshire was delighted to be chosen as the Local Charity of the Year for Sainsbury’s in Irvine in July. Linda Brandon is the Service Delivery Officer heading up the team and here she tells us a little more about what’s in store for them for the year.
“The main aim of the “LCOY” scheme is to help to raise funds, increase awareness of the charity and to promote volunteering.
To start the ball rolling, Sainsbury’s arranged a launch weekend where we had a stall with all our promotional goodies and handed out leaflets to hundreds of shoppers. We joined in the fun of the weekend where they had organised everything from a Tombola, Raffle, Bouncy castle, cup cake decorating stall to face painting, craft stalls and a car boot sale.
We decided to fill a car with rubbish…..erm…. goodies and sell our wares for the service but unfortunately the heavens opened and we were washed out on the Sunday so we are storing our loot for the next one.
Every checkout has a collection bucket displaying our logo and will stay there for the entire year; there is a community display board in store promoting our service; promotional boards and leaflets on display at the customer service desk and regular activities planned throughout the year.
We got details from 4 people who expressed an interest in volunteering , three interested in the Victim Service and 1 interested in the Witness Service so we will look forward to seeing how they progress.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our service albeit a lot of additional work but we are so grateful for the additional time given by our volunteers to help in our promotional activities.”
Everyone at VSS is very proud of all the hard work Linda and the team have put into making the launch a success and if you follow our facebook and twitter pages you will see the many photos of the launch weekend.
We wish them a very successful year.
